„Dialogue between the Deaf“? The Relationship between Sociology and History

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2008

Abstract

This article discussses the relationship between sociology and history in three parts. The first compares opinions on the dividing line between sociology and history.

The second part looks back in time to show the reciprocal ties between history and sociology as they gradually grew apart and then drew closer again, leading to the emergence of historical (comparative) sociology. The third deals with the subject of social change, which is viewed as a key problem in historical sociology, and also seen as an area of research where sociology and history should join forces to address social issues.
