Romance word composition and learned word composition: two procedures in competition in contemporary Italian

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2006

Abstract

A research of 1390 modern Italian compounds allows the author to confront the learned and the romance word composition from three points of view: their productivity, the linguistic register of the compounds and the morphological structure of the compounds. The morphological analysis allows us to formulate the hypothesis that the confixes, even those of romance origine, make never part of romance compounds.
