Abstract
The paper comments on the use of the uncomplemented -ed past participial postmodifiers. It is shown that these -ed clauses are elliptical and have a cohesive effect.
Their use is thus dependent on the presence of the presupposed element in the preceding context. Related issues, such as the applicability of the criteria for ellipsis, the type of definiteness in these noun phrases, and a comparison with the pre-head participles are discussed as well.
