Helping the University Education of the Deaf

Abstract

Introduced here is an instructing PowerPoint Presentation which accompanied a lecture at Charles University Advisory and Information Centre in February 2005 which was organized especially for the university staff and advisors who have to deal with the deaf and hard-of-hearing students. In the lecture were stressed especially the points of successful communication with deaf students without having at hand a qualified interpreter.

Stressed was also the fact that deaf students should be allowed to study at universities also more practical study disciplines leading, after their graduation, to practical jobs. Setting up special university career centres which would help the deaf and hard-of-hearing graduates to find the jobs that would more correspond their study fields seems to be another very important step at improving their chances for living a better life more corresponding their achieved level of education.
