Abstract
The article introduces logical doctrine of modalities in Juan Caramuel y Lobkowicz. It focuses on his understanding of contingency and the issue of including the mode of liberty among the modals.
Caramuel's treatment of modalities is interesting because besides logical modes, he analyzes some relationships among epistemic modalities as well.
