First of Seven Millenium Problems Nears Completion

Abstract

This is a survey article about the proof of the so-called Poincaré Conjecture. This old conjecture says that every 3-manifold which is homotopically equivalent to the 3-sphere is homeomorphic to the 3-sphere.
