Effect of ceramide acyl chain length on skin permeability and thermotropic phase behavior of model stratum corneum lipid membranes

Abstrakt

Ceramides with 4-6C acyl do not maintain skin barrier function despite their having the same polar head structure as the native ones. They also displayed lowest phase transition temperatures and formed least dense lipid membranes.
