The paper deals with the beginning of teaching sugar production within chemistry in Czech polytechnics from the 1860´s to the beginning of the 20th century. At first, it outlines overall situation in sugar industry as an industrial segment in our country at the beginning of this time period.
Then, it monitors assertion of the Czech element in this branch – both teachers and students, factors that contributed to enhanced interest in the branch or on the contrary lead to its inhibition, conditions under which it was taught. In profiles, individual teachers are introduced including their qualification, merits in the development of sugar industry and sugar production technologies and their scientific work.
