Mamelodi House: A Music Ethnography of a South African Escape

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of an individual experience of modernity in today''s South African township. A short ethnomusicological study as a music ethnography focuses on grass-root production of dance music in Mamelodi township, City of Tshwane, South Africa using the discourse of sensuous anthropology.

The study is based on a repeated field research conducted between 2006 and 2011.
