Abstract
The article deals with the reasons, the battle itself and the aftermath of the battle of Malplaquet. This fight, the bloodiest battle in the 18th century, was a part of the War of the Spanish Succession.
There were involved among others France and the Holy Roman Empire in this war. The result of the battle was controversial, because the winners were the allied armies, but they had lost many soldiers and they were not able to proceed to Paris.
