Prognostic Factors in Stroke Patients, prediction of Rehabilitation Treatment Results

Publication

Abstract

The incidence of stroke increases in the EU countries annually by 1 to

1.5%. This unfavourable tendency is due to both ageing of the population and increasing occurrence of this acute severe disease in productive age. It is particularly in stroke patients where nursing has an irreplaceable position. The essential part of work with patients in rehabilitation wards implies a team approach of all health care staff. The professional medical team participates in the targeted treatment activities provided by a multi-stage way, including modern nursing. Their aim is to promote patients'' self-sufficiency, to reduce the negative impact of the disease, to prevent complications and to lead the patients to take active part in the care for their health. The aim of the presented study was:

1. To find out whether there are significant improvements in impairments and activities of patients after comprehensive treatment.

2. To find out the relation between the level of physical impairment and daily activities at admission and three week later assessed by the overall score of FIM test.

3. To find out the differences in observed parameters and outcomes of rehabilitation treatment with regard to sex.

4. To find out differences in observed parameters and outcomes of rehabilitation treatment in relation to the type of stroke.

5. To find out the differences in observed parameters and outcomes of rehabilitation treatment with regard to the presence of comorbidities.

6. To find predictive factors of treatment outcome from own data file, to assess how precisely the predicted and observed results correspond.
