Abstract

An article informs about stray finds of Bohemian and Moravian coins at Caesarea (today Israel). The find consists of three denar types from the 1240s-1250s, one of which has been unknown up to now.

They were probably brouhgt by Bohemian participants in 13th century crusades. In this connection the author pays attention to a report on certain Markvaldus suppanus de Bohemia who tried in 1250 to get with 36 other followers from Messina (Sicily) to Akon and to join Louis IX., King of France, there.
