Abstract

Regional press is mostly the only source of information that we have at our disposal for studying regional history in some territories and periods. PhDr.

Hippolyt Tauschinski (1839 - 1905) lived and worked in Česká Lípa for a short time. In 1884/1885 he was an editor in Č.

Lípa. This period of his life in Č.

Lípa has been discovered recently thanks to the regional press. In the period 1884/1888 two newspapers were printed for the region Č.

Lípa at the same time. The local Leipaer Zeitung (LZ) and Leipaer Deutsche Zeitung (LDZ) edited in Děčín.

LZ were written with moderate nationalism, on the other hand LDZ supported uncompromisingly German nationalism. At the beginning of December 1884 Tauschinski became an owner of the tolerant LZ.

Unscrupulous campaigns were aimed at LZ and its protagonist Tauschinski. He was banished from Česká Lípa in March 1885 and defended himself legally against such an unusual decision.

In the middle of July 1885, he sold LZ and left for Viena.
