Abstract
This contribution focuses on selected episodes from the history of population dynamics which are less known among mathematicians. We describe the life table of Edmund Halley, Daniel Bernoulli''s work on the inoculation of smallpox, and finally a model of the spread of malaria devised by Ronald Ross.
