Abstract
The thesis focuses on clarification of Christianity''s influence on education in the territory of Great Moravia. In the 9th century, the West was gradually returning to a philosophical tradition of antiquity that contradicted the East which was continuously developing a philosophy in Christianity.
The West exclusively focused on theological education which was only taught in monasteries and schools close to the churches and temples. In the Christian East the state kept control of secular education but the theological education, however, was completely in the hands of the church.
Considerable contradictions resulting from different conceptions of faith and its teaching could be observed during this period of time. The following Great Schism was a predictable result of a disagreement lasting a few centuries.
Great Moravia adopted a compromise that derived suitable parts from both conceptions of the East and the West.
