The article focuses on the education system of the 9th century Byzantine Empire. It ascertains cultural-historical background of the Byzantine Empire, where the Michael III''s mission originated.
This act, so important to Slovens, brought to Great Moravia not only Christianity but also the entire concept of education. However, not all the new elements could be applied to areas which were under the influence of Western culture.The text examines the centres of education in Byzantine Empire and analyses their possible location in Great Moravia.
