Abstract

The text Émile Durkheim - the Sociologist and Educationalist deals with the predecessors of Durkheim in the field of social science, with his epistemology, sociological method, and various forms of grasping the relation between an individual and society, particularly in the realm ofmoral sociology and theory of education. The aim of this work was to show Durkheim to be one of the last systematists of human sciences who was conceptually equipped to grasp social reality in all its aspects, as well asa prominent education thinker, who did not lapse into schematic humanistic clichés.

Moreover, the text tries to present Durkheim as a persuasive proponent of normative approach to pedagogy and as a conscientious theoretician who tried to solve the problem of how to bring the principle of scientific objectivity and value neutrality into accord with comprehension of human and social realities.
