Abstract
The text describes the development of the Union of Czech Journalists during the February crisis of 1948 in Czechoslovakia. It focuses primarily on the process of elimination of journalists who have built in opposition to the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and its efforts to gain a dominant influence in society in the period 1945-1948 and highlights the importance of journalistic organizations to paralyze opposition media during the February crisis.
The article also contemplates the implications of the exclusion of the most experienced layer of Czech journalists for media development in the emerging communist totalitarianism.
