Merits of Venetian Womens : Wife or Courtessan in the City on the Lagoon

Abstract

Wife, nun, courtesan. There are the only three possible roles, wich female adults in age of late Renaissance can take.

Often they have no option to choose. On example of literary works of two representatives coming from different social states - Moderata Fonte as a wife and Veronica Franco as a courtesan - this article describes womens life at the time.
