Abstract
This paper focuses on contrast between German and Czech. First, lexical modality is described from the contrastive point of view: -bar and -sam adjectives and their syntactical counterparts in German are compared to their Czech translation equivalents.
Our aim is to highlight the lexical-syntactic continuum of the analyzed lexemes and point to the difference between the traditional structural-systemic approach and a corpus-driven description.
