Safeguards systems to control the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in the international and Czech contexts

Abstract

The purpose and history of nuclear safeguards systems within the nuclear weapons non-proliferation efforts are highlighted. The links between the safeguards systems and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM) are described and the effect of cooperation between the Czech Republic and the two institutions on the national nuclear materials accountancy and control system is analyzed.
