Abstract

DA is a vascular shunt connecting the truncus pulmonalis to the aorta. The prostaglandins maintain the DA''s patency.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) often cause closure of the DA by suppressing prostaglandins synthesis. The mother had no past medical history of NSAID use during pregnancy.

Her pain was reduced by non-opioid analgetics such as paracetamolum and metamizolum,a total dose 10 gram. No case of premature DA closure after the administration of these drugs has been described yet in the literature.

Neither the incidence nor the prognosis of premature DA closure is known. We found only fifteen cases of such instances.

The etiology was usually NSAID.
