Polarographic and Voltammetric Determination of Genotoxic 9-Fluorenone and its Derivatives

Abstract

Polarographic and voltammetric behavior of genotoxic 9-fluorenone (FN) and its genotoxic derivatives, namely 2-nitro-9-fluorenone (2-NFN), 2,7-dinitro-9-fluorenone (2,7-DNFN), and 2-amino-9-fluorenone (2-AFN), has been investigated at a dropping mercury electrode (DME), a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE), and a mercury meniscus modified silver solid amalgam electrode (m-AgSAE). The optimum conditions have been investigated in methanolic-aqueous media buffered using Britton-Robinson buffer.

Under optimum conditions, linear calibration curves were measured with nanomolar to micromolar limits of quantification reached. These newly developed polarographic and voltammetric methods have been successfully applied to model samples of drinking and river water spiked with determined substances.
