The modern concept of media education tells students that the media are a reflection of how society tries to interpret the world around her. The media show us which interpretations are given more space and which ones are preferred in the prevailing discourse.
Winning interpretations have the power to construct a real image of the world, and cease to be mere "media reality". Insight into the theory of frames provides one way to become aware of this fact.
The frame is a fundamental concept of contemporary exploration of language and information value of mass communication, its impact on man and his world. A key part of the frame consists mainly in that it defines what type of questioning is relevant and what is not, and that it sets interpretive space, thus it de facto precedes the interpretations.
The fact that we live within these frames, and that we are just barely exceeding them is good to know.
