Abstract

Insufficient hydration may have a negative impact on health status of an individual. Several investigators described insufficient hydration in children during various sport activities.

The objective of our study was to investigate a hydration state in young students of primary school close to they started their compulsory lesson of physical training. Urine specific gravity (USG) was used as a marker of hydration state of individuals.

We found a mean USG value 1,0225 g. ml -1 SD = 0,00785 in our subjects (n = 84; age 8,79 SD = 1,22). These results correspond to significant difference compared with a mean UGS value in general population (p { 0,05*).

Our findings indicate that USG in pupils before physical training lesson was significantly higher, what may correspond to a mild state of dehydration.
