Retail in transformation: changes in the spatial structure and preferences

Abstract

The Czech retail trade has undergone a considerable transformation during the last fifteen years. The ownership structure of trade companies, net of retail outlets and the whole offer of goods and services have been affected by this transformation.

As a consequence of these changes consumer behaviour of the Czech shoppers changed dramatically as well. In this context, there is a growing importance of the retailing geography, a field that has been rather neglected within the Czech human geography during the last decades.
