The Icelandic Family Sagas as a Pretext of Bjornson's peasant tales and their Biedermeier Idyll

Abstract

The article analyses Bjornson''s intentional reference to the genre of the Icelandic family sagas. There is given a clear evidence of structural similarities and thematical differences of both genres.

Eventually the tales are related to the Biedermeier ideal of the foregoing decades.
