Abstract

In this paper I concern with a phenomenon of art within field of evolutionary psychology. This phenomenon apparently exceeds the functional and as such it "cries out for an explanation".

Despite the fact, that there are many evolutionary theories of art I will focus on one proposed by Geoffrey Miller. He considers art as a product not of natural selection but of sexual selection.

In my research I further examined his theory and formed two hypothesis based on it. Those were tested empirically in a form of personal ads.

Results show, that neither more nor younger women answer to those ads which contain expression of artistic talent though. Thus they do not support Miller''s theory.
