Tragedy as the Genre of European Culture

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2011

Abstract

Most important genres of European culture (heroic poem, classical tragedy, novel, "comédie larmoyante") express human position in various stages of the European culture. The plot of classical tragedy consists in the conflict between undividual psychology and superpersonal principles (fate).

Author discusses the discourse on Aristotles Poetics during the new ages and the revival of ancient Tragedy (Euripide) in Russian symbolism up to Marina Cvetaeva.
