Abstract
The language of the Czech minority in Croatia is a consequence of many circumstances, which are the result of specific conditions in development and language contacts: blending of Czech and Moravian dialects at the turn of the 19th and 20 century, the influence of literary language and contemporary colloquial Czech and most of all, the constant influence of the local language of the majority population, Croatian. The vocabulary is a language layer, which is most subject to change; therefore we will meet here various contact phenomena from calques, over loanwords, including those with sound change, up to the new words.
On the semantic level, it comes mostly to the narrowing or on the contrary, expanding of the loaned lexemes' meaning which also leads to changes in the meaning of the words that were originally Czech. The uncertainty in the meaning of words leads to their use in inappropriate contexts, which is most pronounced in the so-called contact homonyms or literal translations of words and in phrases that are used in Czech language in a different context or in a different meaning.
Semantic interferences are evident even in the style classification / expressivity of some lexical units.
