Abstract
The book describes the author''s personal experiences with the acquisition and use of a number of languages in his young and old age. His life story testifies that the command of more languages is not as much related to innate talent as to the opportunities provided by one''s own family and his or her environment.
This is further supported by the experience of the countries such as Belgium, Singapore or Malaysia in which the knowledge of more languages is generally wide-spread.
