Abstrakt
This article explores the most important historic factors, which determined the life and work of one of the greatest Czech linguists and educators of the 20th century, Vladimír Šmilauer. Through the examination of his life, we will also seek to explain the power structures and function of totalitarian systems that gripped Europe in the last century.
