This account deals with a function and concept of readers in educational systems in a given period. It follows thematic and genre alteration in selection of literal texts, alteration of literature didactic presentation, it presents portraits of famous authors and engages in didactical interpretation of selected canonical reader''s texts (Toman and Forest Virgin Františka Ladislava Čelakovského, Grandfather''s Bowl Jana Nerudy, Grandmother Boženy Němcové).
