The article deals with support of tourism in protected areas, with the Šumava National Park as a case study. Tourism represents one of the Essentials choices for regional development with respect to specific primary potential and already existing tourist infrastructure.
Dominant forms and tourist activities are outlined which should be appropriate for protected areas and projects supporting tourism development from the point of selected groups of actors are analyzed in detail. Field surveys and structured interviews with state government and local self-government representatives were major methods.
