Publication at Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové |
2011

Abstract

The chapter covers the procedure and basic principles regarding the examination of the patient with neuropsychiatric disorder, including differential diagnostics. Compared to common psychiatric examination, the neuropsychiatric examination focuses more on cognitive functions and includes neurological examination and imaging methods.

The core of the examination consists of a detailed personal history with the emphasis on symptoms and clinical picture of present illness, the history of present illness and its course. Afterwards, there comes the physical, neurologic and somatic examination (the examinations are described in the chapter chronologically).

Neuropsychological examination is also an integral part of a neuropsychiatric examination. For the purpose of confirmation or disproval of the preliminary diagnosis, there are listed the supplementary examinations including the objective history, detailed examination by the clinical psychologist and imaging methods.

Differential diagnostics is presented in a tabular form.
