Stage form as a method of teaching

Publication |
2010

Abstract

The paper analyses the method of stage form, which is used in a special course at the Albertov study centre at Charles University in Prague. The overall goal of this process is to prepare theatrical production.

The main language aims are to practice fluency of speaking and train accuracy in speaking. In addition to these aims, the paper focuses on three speaking phases within a semester, on the preparation of scripts and selected concrete problems relating to the work across the whole semester.

In this method applied activities with dramatics elements are used to teach a foreign language. The result gained from these methods, based on connecting the spoken word with movement, are long-lasting.

Students who learn via this method learn to speak in concrete communicative situations and therefore know when to use their knowledge and skills appropriately. Another positive result of these activities that must not be ignored is the strengthening of the students' command of communication.

It also increases their ability to swiftly employ compensatory strategies when necessary.
