The book investigates the social and cultural background of the intellectual milieu of Northern French and Rhenish Jewish centers in 10th-12th C. In the center of the book there is the figure an work of Rabbi Shelomo Yitzhaqi (Rashi, 1040-1105).
The book formulates a thesis that Rashi created a specific exegetical methodology. This methodology is reconstructed based on the Rashi's programmatic statements that are scattered in the course of his Biblical commentaries.
