Abstract
The Quijote by Miguel de Cervantes as a novel which offers the joy of telling, an author's game with characters and readers, the respect for the tradition and simultaneously its paroding and overcoming, and the language as an instrument of a unrestrained imagination and fantasy - that is the heritage which Gonzalo Torrente Ballester (1910-1999) tries to fulfil and enrich in the modern prose od the 20th century.
