National minorities in the Constitutional Framework of the first Czechoslovak republic (1918-1938)

Abstract

This article summarizes the constitutional foundation of Czechoslovakia and the response of minorities to declaration of the new state. It gives a brief summary of the status of German and Hungarian minorities in the first Czechoslovak Republic, with emphasis on their representation in the National Assembly, the language law, censorship and freedom of the press and the issue of land reform.
