Reflexive verbal forms in Czech from the Romance perspective

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2007

Abstract

The chapter compares reflexive verbal forms (henceforth RVF) in Czech, French, Italian, Spanish and Romanian. The analysis based on generative assumptions shows that the languages split into two groups.

One of them, including Italian and Spanish, allows for a wide range of RVFs with all kinds of verbs. The second group, i.e.

Romanian, Czech and French, is more restricted, excluding RVFs with copulas and passive verbs.
