[+arb] subject in Czech

Abstract

The paper focuses on two syntactic constructions, the subject of which is understood as an arbitrary human agent ([+arb]), i.e. infinitival constructions in the subject position and the reflexive verbal form. The analysis based on generative assumptions reaches the conclusion that both the reflexive clitic "se" and the null infinitival subject PRO lack independent reference and a proper antecedent and hence get the arbitrary interpretation as a default option.
