Awareness of Physical Literacy among the Applicants of Charles University Faculty of Physical Education and Sport

Abstract

The article discusses the benefits of the concept of physical literacy and it's possible components.We investigated the awareness of physical literacy concept among 55 applicants to the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport using a survey supplemented by qualitative interviews. Besides the main open-ended question on definition of physical literacy, respondents were asked to select physical literacy components in specified areas (gymnastics, athletics and swimming) and also had the possibility to describe other important components of physical literacy in an open-ended question.

The results obtained confirm our expectation, that applicants are able to associate the concept of physical literacy with specific skills, but lack a sufficent understanding of the concept within the context of the and the specified areas.
