Abstract

This article discusses the relationship of suburbanization and urban sprawl and difference between urban sprawl in North America and Europe. To illustrate possible impacts of poorly regulated sprawl development, the article shows some negative impacts of urban sprawl on an example of Calgary, the informal capital of sprawl in Canada.

The impacts of sprawl on Calgary are discussed on empirical data as well as on the author's personal experiences earned by multiple visits of the city.
