Abstract

We use numbers written in the decimal place-value system. The method of expressing every possible number using a set of ten symbols originated in India.

However, it took a long time until number symbols as we know today were formed. The aim of this paper is to show special ancient Indian ways of expressing numbers.

Our decimal numbers are derived from old Indian forms which were transmitted via Arab culture to Europe.
