Physical and Metallurgical Aspects of Deformation Behaviour of Iron Aluminides with Extremely Low Plasticity

Abstract

Deformation and structure - forming processes have been studied in hot - formed Fe-Al based castings. The subsequent thermomechanicsl treatment of such an as-cast alloy is usually difficult, mainly because of fraying and cracking of formed alloy.

A special stainless steel bandage of the casting solved the problem successfully. The role of the protective bondage is discussed in terms of thermal isolation and the cracking mode on the surface of hot formed material.
