Idea as a Image : on the Problem of Representation in René Descartes

Publication |
2010

Abstract

The paper proposes a reconsideration of the Descartes's affirmation (( ideas in me are as images }} which could be found in the third of the Meditations on First Philosophy, his major work analysing the possibility of true knowledge. By reconsidering this new definition of idea, very different of the Plato's one, the paper focuses on several aspects of the connection between vision and representation in the Descartes's philosophy.

The analyze in based especially on a questioning of two different interpretations of this problem, proposed by Michel Foucault and Jacques Derrida.
