Abstract
Study focuses on the consequences of the military solution of the Czechoslovakian reformist movement in 1968 for Polish intellectuals. References to the Prague Spring are abundant in newspaper and magazine articles, journals, diaries and memoirs of members of Polish opposition movement as well as the Polish communist party.
Polish politicians used experiences from abroad only if they saw profit in it. Discussions in Polish opposition in the 1970s as well as amongst "party liberals" focused on searching for a balance between reforming the system and preventing intervention.
All actors and analysts of Polish politics tried to adapt to changing conditions. The history of the Prague Spring showed them what might happen if public life extended beyond conventions and what the Soviet reaction might be.
