The contribution gives a list of interesting findings of the vascular plants recorded in the Kocába Brook valley near Nový Knín through the floristic excursions in 2009. A history of the botanical research, a short characteristic of vegetation and a few comments on the occurence of rare or rarely reported plants in the area are included.
The flora of the Kocába Brook valley was explored quite well in the past. The species composition is strongly influenced by a neighbourhood of the Vltava River valley.
The occurence of Centaurea triumfetii, Festuca pallens, Geranium sanguineum, Hieracium schmidtii, Veronica prostrata and Thlaspi caerulescens are the best examples of Vltava' s flora. The montane or submontane species Polygonatum verticillatum, Prenanthes purpurea and Rosa pendulina growing in deep valley of the Kocába Brook represent probably the flora of Brdy and Hřebeny Mts.
This area is strongly influenced by long-term land use: agriculture, forestry, gold mining etc. The most of valuable biotopes like wetlands, xerothermic grasslands and oak forests were destroyed by these human activities.
Thirty-seven recorded species are on the Red list of vascular plants of the Czech Republic. Any critically and strongly endangered plant reported from the area in previous floristic researches was not confirm in 2009.
