The contribution gives a list of vascular plants recorded in the Sedlčany region (Central Bohemia) through floristic excursions from 2003 to 2007. The current data regarding regional flora are given.
The number of plant species is reported in the study area for the first time. Approximately 880 taxa in 196 localities are included.
A large part of the contribution is made up of data from ponds. A history of botanical research, a characteristic of phytochorions and comments on the occurrence of the plant in the Sedlčany region is included. 126 species are on the Red list of vascular plants of the Czech Republic (Procházka 2001).
Twenty-one species are protected by statute, and four plants figure on the endangered list, such as critically endangered Aira caryophyllea, Ceterach officinarum, Cyperus michelianus and Genista sagittalis. The most valuable records regard Cyperus michelianus and Coleanthus subtilis.
Most of the endangered plants are concentrated in the Vltava River valley, the Týnčany Karst limestone area and local ponds accompanied by water-logged meadows. The Vltava River valley is an important route for migration.
Many xerothermic plant species occur in the Sedlčany region due to the river valley. The study area is characterised by acidophilous steppes (xerothermic grasslands on acidophilous soil and rock) which are widely distributed all over the region.
