Abstract
The introduction of the article defines the notion of literary archetype of femininity from the perspective of gender analysis. The particular images of this archetype are briefly demonstrated on selected female characters from classical Indian epics.
The core analysis focuses on their critical conception in modern literature and literary criticism, namely in the short stories of the Bengali writer Mahasveta Debi.
